We currently have 5 members of the reggae band Tidal Waves staying with us. They are here for SXSW as well as doing some traveling around the south for shows. After the kids got home from school the other day one of the members, Jacob, was talking to my daughter about her recorder that she's learning to play in school this year. Jacob and Charlie began to play the recorders, and I pulled out our little basket of instruments the kids play with, as well as what we already had out like the drums and keyboard, and soon the other members of the band were joining in. We had drums and keyboards and singing and djembe and bongos (little kids ones) and recorders and flute and guitar and harmonica and lap harp. It was amazing to watch this all evolve and change as they moved from instrument to instrument and laughed and worked with each other to get another beat going. Jacob (who has 3 kids of his own and a ton of patience), worked with my daughter to teach her a basic reggae beat on the keyboard. My 5 year old joined in with the flute some, and my oldest guy got some drumming lessons. This is a memory we will never forget.
